Colors

Each Timpani has a range of approximately one palm of our hands of colors.

To simplify this. I did divide it millimetrically in Vocals to emulate the sound's color.

Bigger the Timpani, bigger the distance between each one of the vocals.

The vocals by color's sound are divided as follow.

I: is the brightest color possible in one Timpani, just as it sounds when we speak, the vocal "I" has the less reverberation of our vocal chords.

E: is a little bit more dark than the "I", but it is still a bright color.

Ä: is a little bit darker that the "E", and begins to show the profound sound of the instrument.

A: is where, in my opinion, the more neutral and also profound sound of the Timpani shows.

Ö: here is where it begins to sound dark, but there is a lot more space for darker sounds.

O: if you like generally the darker sounds of the timpani, then the "O" is the place where you want to play generally, here meets the dark sound and the sound's reverberation.

Ü: here it is still a little bit darker than O and begins to lose reverberation, but the sound's begins to have a deep impact in the kettle of the Timpanis.

U: here is for the lovers of deep and dark sound, to have reverberation here, you have to play a little bit louder than normally.

And then the big special.

BM: the "BM" is the darkest possible beautiful sound that you can make. It is reserved for specials hits where the presence of the Timpani is fundamental for the orchestra.

I figured out this system because I was tired to play on the timpani two single strokes and it was never exactly the same, with this system, you can TRUST that your strokes will be always consistent with what sound you desire.

I have to say that this approach have been bringing me very desirable results by playing both in orchestras and practicing. Receiving compliments from the biggest conductors.
